TREASURE COINS
"1554 PLATE FLEET"

In the Spring of 1554, a small convoy of Spanish merchant vessels set sail from Mexico to Spain with cargoes of precious metals, including silver discs, gold ingots and silver coinage. The convoy was caught in one of the storms that haunt the Gulf of Mexico during this time of year. Only one disabled ship managed to make port in Havana.
